Dhamma Rasa

Vipassana Meditation as taught by S.N. Goenka in the tradition of Sayagy U Ba Khin

A dedicated Vipassana long course centre to serve the Asia-Pacific region and the world

Work groups

The most efficient and productive way to manage a centre is to create specific work groups to undertake a variety of important tasks and manage ongoing responsibilities. These well-defined work groups utilise the varying interests and diverse variety of skills amongst old students, and focus attention in a systematic and strategic manner. All work groups are overseen by the Centre’s Trust, thereby facilitating the growth and steady running of the Centre and courses.

Old students who would like to assist in the development and growth of Dhamma Rasa may consider joining one of the following five work groups:

Centre management

This group is responsible for the overall management of the centre including day-to-day decisions and tasks such as improvements to the existing facilities, gardening and preparation for one-day courses. Members of this group are usually staying at the Centre or are able to visit regularly and be involved in practical work. Later, a specific work group for gardening and landscaping will be formed.

Planning

This group oversees and coordinates the planning and development of the centre. This currently involves the preparation of a detailed Development Application for local council, involving a master plan for the completed centre and architectural plans for all of the individual buildings. Later it will involve applications for respective building permits and then project management of the different stages and buildings.

A team of old student architects and draftspeople has been formed to design each building and a lead architect will compile and oversee the DA submission. A detailed utilities plan for the whole centre will also be required.

Old students with relevant qualifications and experience are needed, especially engineers in the streams of structural, civil, electrical, HVAC and hydrology (including sewerage system design and installation). For this initial planning stage, experienced consultants in the areas of bushfire, ecology and town planning would also be beneficial. Later, those old students with building and trade experience will be enormously helpful in developing the Centre.

Finance

The finance work group includes managing ongoing donations and dana from courses, all expense payments, banking facilities, term deposits, student loans, EFTPOS terminals and website payment gateways. The group also handles all bookkeeping and receipts, produces regular finance reports for the Trust and oversees the annual audit. Members of this group are qualified and experienced in bookkeeping and accounting.

Outreach

The outreach group is responsible for developing and maintaining the website, creating and sending regular newsletters and assisting other centres – especially in the region – to inform their old students of this long course centre. Old students with experience in publicity, website design, graphic design and writing are often well suited for this group.

Kitchen/housekeeping

This group is responsible for a diverse range of practical needs, including cleaning equipment and supplies, linen, crockery, furniture and other relevant supplies. Members of this group are usually living or staying at the Centre.

“May all of you who give Dhamma service become strengthened in Dhamma. May you learn to develop your goodwill, love and compassion for others. May all of you progress in Dhamma, and enjoy real peace, real harmony, real happiness.”
S.N. Goenka
